Quick Handy remedies for Cold

  • Mix a gram of dalchini/cinnamon powder with a teaspoon of honey to cure cold. Prepare a cup of tea to which you should add ginger, clove, bayleaf and black pepper. This should be consumed twice a day. Reduce the intake as the cold disappears.

  • GINGER FOR COLDS. Ginger tea is very good to cure cold. Preparation of tea: cut gingerinto small pieces and boil it with water, boil it a few times and then add sugar to sweeten and milk to taste, and drink it hot.

  • DRY COUGHS. Add a gram of turmeric (haldi) powder to a teaspoon of honey for curing dry cough. Also chew a cardamom for a long time.

Common cold


Common cold is the infection of the upper respiratory tract caused by a virus.  Though there are many medicines available to cure common cold, here are some natural cough remedies.
  • Add honey and a pinch of salt to orange juice and drink it to get relief from cold, cough and throat pain.

  • Include cabbage regularly in food to control cold and cough.

  • Add pepper to guava to get relief from phlegm.

  • Having cow’s milk with honey cures cold.

  • Drink fresh cow’s milk with turmeric powder early morning to get relief from dry cough
  • Burn onion directly in the flame and eat to remove cough and chest congestion.

  • Betel leaves juice with honey helps in getting relief from cough.

  • Having a glass of milk with turmeric in the night gives relief from cold and cough.

  • Karpuravalli leaf is excellent in cures for coughs and cold. Boil 3-4 leaves in water and drink the water. Repeat this for 2 – 3 days to get a good relief from cold. You can also add these leaves to rasam and eat the leaves along with the rasam.
  • In bulk the following powder can be made and stored in fridge. Chitharathai – ¼ kg, Adhi madhuram – ¼ kg, turmeric – 50 gms, omam – 25 gms. Crush it and keep it in hot sun for 2 hours. Grind it in mixie, sieve it and take out the powder. This powder can be added to hot water or to hot milk before going to bed.
